the kinds of professors i hope i never am
the kind that looks through someone they've been introduced to a million times, unless that person is with someone famous, in which case she acts all gracious
the kind that constantly reminds people how persecuted she is
the kind that bad-mouths her students to anyone but her spouse or best friend
the kind that is just totally bat-shit crazy, so that no one takes anything she says seriously
the kind that thinks she is ignored or unpublished or uninvited because she's sooooo radical and people can't handle the Truth of what she says
the kind that everyone thinks has the job because of her best friend/ partner/ spouse (and it's probably true)
the kinds of professors i really wouldn't mind being one bit
the kind that makes everyone around her smarter
the kind that gets invited to parties but not onto committees
the kind that is suspiciously well-dressed
the kind that always asks a question at a presentation or talk
the kind that advocates for those with less power than her
the kind who gets laughs with inappropriate jokes

yah, but a girl can dream, can't she?
And on those that always ask a question at a talk: I'll give you $10 if you become one of those that always asks *the same* question. And I'll make it $20 if that question is: How many pages of Discipline & Punish are dedicated to theorizing power?
The worst is when you go to a party and get invited (wrong term, by the way) onto a committee WHILE YOU ARE AT THE PARTY. It is very hard to say no, especially when you are drinking that person's free alcohol.
ooh, physical indignities. a realm of professorship i could sign up for. including the indignity of being to drunk to say no to a committee ask.
