local culture

last night we rode our bikes to being the youngest people in the audience to see "the treasure of the sierra madre." it was showing at the eastman house, a big landmark and historic site here in rochester.

it was pretty darn cool. the movie's a good 'un, even though it has a lesson. the best line is, "you're so dumb there ain't nothing to compare you to!"

a guy gave a little talk beforehand about the academy awards it won (two: for father [actor, walter huston] and son [director, john huston]), the score (which actually sounded to me like "surrey with the fringe on top" from oklahoma!,) the supporting actors, and most interestingly, the author of the novel on which the film is based. it was all totally interesting and totally local culture-ish, and having ridden our bikes there, we felt as though we were Living the Dream. the theater itself has art deco-style chairs and exit signs, even, and a curtain over the screen, which they raised to the score of the film. way good times. plus, for some reason i think i've decided i like old people and hanging out with them.
