worst drive ever

our little family of fur people are pure travel champions. lola has always been such, spending each car trip as a Best Buddy. Best Buddy doesn't ever whine or cry, and she eats the chicken mcnuggets she is fed very politely and either sleeps in the back or rests her head on the driver's shoulder from the back seat, staring pensively out of the window. she's also good for a couple of meaningful gazes.

tiny francis, embarrasingly cute, is so passive he's up for anything. and levon is totally fine with a couple of treats. he is so fat that he can't really sleep like a normal cat, i.e. curled or on his back, so he sleeps on his side, or hugging his little towel, with the effect that he looks like a giant orange fuzzy baby. those little kitties sleep the entire way with barely a peep, and for that they should be commended. and so therefore i commend them.

nighttime is another story, however. lola continues to be the Best Buddy, sleeping by our side with no problem. but the kitties, now awake, go, WE ARE KITTIES AND WE SLEPT ALL DAY AND NOW WE WANT TO MARCH AND PARADE AND SEE WHAT FALLS DOWN AND MAKES NOISE. KITTY! KITTY! KITTY! KITTY!!!!

anyway, aside from these angelic creatures, the drive was plagued by pouring rain and thunderstorms (which make Best Buddy shake like a little leaf), stalled traffic, and extreme driver grouchiness. now we are in charleston, wv, in a perfectly delightful days inn owned by someone who posts a lot of rules and signs her name to them, ala "Don't Wear Muddy Shoes or Boots Inside," Nancy Lowell, or whatever her name is. also, if you live within a fifty mile radius of the hotel and you are paying with cash, you have to leave a $100 deposit. what th--? that can't be a sign of wholesomeness.
