today the temperature reached 92 degrees fahrenheit, and the local newscasters assured us that it wasn't a heat wave--apparently in rochester, you have to have three consecutive days of 90-degree heat or higher. we can't help but congratulate ourselves on our hardcore weather cred, having survived (albeit only one total, when you add up time away and everything, but we don't talk about that) new orleans summer, where 92 means you can actually go outside.
also, what's up with the quality of the heat? in n.o., of course it's more humid, but here too. the difference in heat quality is not just the difference in humidity. in new orleans, the heat sucks the life out of you and gives you a pounding headache and makes you scowl. you simply cannot drink enough water. relatedly but perhaps contradictorily, i'm convinced that in new orleans one must drink alcohol for one's own safety, because the blood-vessel-swelling-and-therefore-releasing-body-heat effect offsets the dehydration.
in any case, people in new orleans don't seem to talk too much about the weather, because it is such a oppressive given. (the exception being hurricanes, even though ditto.) but here, fully half the local news was devoted to how very, very, very hot it was here yesterday at 92.
maybe in rochester they have the same attitude about snow that new orleans does about heat--? i'll find out.
