more points of ROC interest

so, it turns out that the finger lakes wine country begins about a half hour's drive from here. we met my cousins there, planning to have dinner.

mostly, the place is relatively déclassé, which is one of my new favorite words that i am probably spelling wrong. i.e., the wine was kind of crappy, even to my untrained palate, and people were schlubbing around in like wolf t-shirts. also, the first place that we went to was having a chicken bbq, and had hired a band, which played "play that funky music white boy," and "she's a brick house," etc., all of which made painfully obvious why black people make fun of white people. we felt like we were at the wedding of like our second cousin.

we did find some delicious wine at The Thirsty Owl. we bought some merlot, in spite of (because of) the movie "sideways" giving it a bad rap.

inexplicably, no wineries were serving dinner on a saturday night, (they close at 5--WTF???) so we went back to ROC and had the very very very best bbq i have ever had at the embarrassingly and somewhat grotesquely named Sticky Lips. holy crapola. and then, already in partial food comas, we headed over to a bar in the neighborhood that chad and i have been wanting to check out, called The Flip Side, a fifties-pop-themed dive-ish local bar. we heart our neighborhood.

today, if we'd wanted to, we could have gone to a latin mass around the corner at a church run by the society of st. pius v. but we didn't want to.
