quotes from such a notebook of mine (try to muster at least a tiny bit of bemused sympathy with me):
"if i ever go back for my phd in history, i would like to write my dissertation on the commidification of symbols."
"write a letter to [this cuban guy i had a thing with]: does he perceive me to be judgmental because he himself is? why does he deny/belittle aspects about himself (particularly his ethnicity)."
"write to [my undergrad mentor]: why is academic success such a neurotic obsession? what do i think she's done for me? [i have no idea if that was supposed to be, yunno, confrontational, but i really doubt it.]"
"[a friend of mine] said, 'we went to the vatican b/c we're catholics.' how personal does something have to be before you decide it's worth spending time to go?"
"[at the time i was in prague, cz] at the jewish museum [which has walls of names of people who died in the holocaust] i am wondering, what can i do for the person but read the name--acknowledge them as someone defined according to something that didn't destroy them?"
huh. i guess such self-aggrandizing questioning is relatively typical of a 23-yr old? and i am painfully aware that i have not stopped this habit, but my questions now amount to stuff like the following:
"is superman more gay or more like jesus?"
"does thinking that consenting adults, no matter what their gender or sexuality, should be able to enter a legally recognized economic and social permanent relationship, make me a libertarian?"
"do my friends secretly think i'm stupid? if so, do they care?"
"why does armpit hair seem attractive on other women but not me?"

Ah yes... the commodification of symbols. Definitely a ripe area for study. Symbols, of course, are a language that help us understand our past. Investigation of their production, distribution, exchange, sale, and consumption may well help us to understand the greatest cover-up in human history. I hope you pursue this...
crap - I wish I understood this cryptological technology better, so that my web site appeared in my previous post.
Symbology indeed, DHaw...
Had I been less focused on revealing said coverup and wooing a fabulously French cryptologist, I might have spent more time learning the new symbols endemic to html and actually redered my address visible.
Third time's a charm, one hears:
