happy birthday to me!

i share my birthday with a lot of very cool people.

at 34, i am now in my last year of being in the most highly sought-after demographic, which i understand to be 18-34. this fact explains why, about two weeks after i hear of some cultural thing, like a band or a internet phenomenon or a clothing trend, it is no longer cool. in other words, i am the very last, and somewhat remote, stop on the cool train. in fact, my liking something or hearing about it might be exactly what sends it on its way to uncool. so don't try out your ideas on me!

I'm also 34, but I'm thoroughly convinced that riding while slightly intoxicated, dressing in the manner of an insect, and snoozing into the very late morning are all unquestionably cool. And birth control. And pasteurization. I'm less sure about the Joan Jett.

oh, anonymous, anonymous, anonymous. first of all, those things are not cool, they are fun. except for joan jett, who always equals cool. i'll explain all of it someday, here.
