entertainment media round-up
my thirteen-year-old boy sensibilities have detected that on almost every episode of the tv show "House," the show with the mean genius doctor to which i am moderately devoted, includes some character, usually house himself, uttering the word "poop." what's up with that? seems as though i have some kindred spirits on their writing staff.
the world currently seems OBSESSED with children's sexuality and the degree to which it must be denied and defended from predators which apparently lurk everywhere. i do believe that when albert gonzales took office as attorney general, he made the politically radical (sarcastic) pledge to devote resources to catching pedophiles and kiddie porn fans. great, but now everywhere i turn the topic is covered on the news, on fictional tv shows, and on morning talk radio. second to stories about men preying on little girls and boys are stories about (always acknowledged as) hot high school woman teachers having affairs with students. people. please. this is a.) too easy and b.) kind of turning on itself, b/c if i am representative of american media audience, and i can only assume i am, this audience is becoming desensitized to the topic. i find myself yearning for the days when i was shocked by and cheered on the inmates who killed jeffrey dahmer in prison with a broom handle. now he'd just be another character on law and order.
