atlanta observations

a weekend in atlanta has helped me confirm what chad has been maintaining since he moved here: we are not atlanta people. or atlanta is not for us.

  • atlanta is so shiny and new looking, and so very enticing with all its (non-chain) restaurants and fabulous shopping areas. now, don't get me wrong. this blogger certainly does love a cool restaurant and having new clothes. however, this blogger also prefers the fun in seeking it out, knowing just where to go, finding a ridiculous bargain that others don't recognized. that joy has been completely evacuated from a city that has two (2) anthropologies and two (2) sephoras within ten miles of each other.

  • you have to sit in traffic for ten minutes to move two blocks. this blogger gets car sick from watching movies, for chrissakes, let along getting jerked around in a car amidst exhaust fumes under the beating sunshine for half an hour. and if i'm the driver, i'm filled with road rage.

  • this next isn't necessarily appealing or unappealing, but it does show that we don't belong: the women here are well- and crisply-dressed according to widespread fashion dictates, i.e., up-to-the-minute but not really creative. they're all super duper aerobicized, with super good posture and muscle-y butts. in new orleans the women were well dressed, but far more creatively and they were just plain thin. we have conjectured that this is the difference between people who don't have to work (new orleans) and people who work (atlanta), and work hard. idle speculation, perhaps.
