i am pathetic, and also lame

i thought that trick-or-treating ended when it got dark, given the climate of fear to which we have become accustomed. not true here in ROC. i was eating dinner and had to hide from what i thought were the few trick-or-treaters. but they kept coming, and finally i had to crawl out the back door and run to the gas station on the corner, because otherwise i would be trapped in the living room where people couldn't see me.

so then i ran out and so rode my bike to the gas station to refill candy. and now i've got these little bastards, 13 years old and not even bothering with a costume. no candy for them! no show for me, no treats for you. and the kids who put in that extra effort and act out what they're dressed as--they get the good candy.

Best costume I saw yesterday? A woman working at a local cafe where all her fellow employees were in costume was wearing a simple sign taped to her chest. It read, "I'll be anything you want me to be."
