today i had to go print some stuff off for students, and so i gave them a task that had to do with the essay we read for today, and left them alone for a few minutes, saying as i left, "go crazy." i say that a lot, and when i say it i mean that they should really be creative and active with a reading: criticizing it, engaging it, rallying behind it, whatever.
but this time, when i came back, they had decided to go crazy in a different way: they turned over the table and arranged the desks around it in a design, with the desks standing on just two legs; in the corner was another sculpture composed of a chair, desk and the garbage can. it looked like installation art. and on the board was written, "yey elizabeth! i need slep! [sic] pleasedon'tfailus!" and they were laughing very very hard. and after we recovered, we had a great discussion. hooray for the teacher who gets pranks pulled on her. yey students!
