new quarter checklist*

• hair cut
• books ordered
• syllabi made
• eyebrows waxed
• deep sense of foreboding experienced
• mild case of stagefright confronted
• colleagues greeted in hallway, pleasantries exchanged, regrets over not getting as much done over break as hoped expressed, and stupid schedule grimly acknowledged

all set! bring it on.


*my university has a schedule that is extremely lame and stupid. we are on the quarter system, which whatever, but the middle (winter) quarter starts early december (i.e., now) goes three weeks and then breaks for two come xmas/new year's. then we come back for seven weeks. i think there's some explanation for this buried deep in the bureaucratic tectonics, and i know that i am not the only one here hoping that our new president changes it.
