first, of course, is the vadge. i am near-giddy about having someone with a politically relevant similar anatomy to mine in the white house. second, there is the competence. in a world full of people who talk big talks but don't ever really do anything, it seems very very special that you are utterly capable of getting things done.
then there's the naked ambition. the world hates an ambitious woman (even those people who say they don't really do, if you listen closely to their judgmental comments about careerist women), and i am therefore happy that you are so blatantly ambitious. plus, i think your ambition happens to manifest in your seeking political power, and i think your idea of political power happens to be making material changes, and the changes your propose happen to be ones that i think are possible and good, rather than overreaching and idealistic. yes, i have been swayed by the analysts praising your health care plan. and no, i do not brook those leftier-than-thous who criticize it for not going far enough-- those statements are for soothing the conscience of the speaker. and remember, i said possible.
that brings me to some comparisons with your rival, obama. he's ambitious, too, but i get a sense that his ambition does not lie so much in functionality as it does in personal affirmation. i can't put my finger on why, but it's my sense he's more concerned with being liked, and i love that you aren't so worried about that. (in fact, you're pretty unlikeable, which is what i love about you.) also, i am deeply suspicious of the sentimentality that surrounds obama's campaign: change, change, change, hope, hope, hope. i'm extremely afraid of supporting a personality. and yes, i've been swayed by the analysts criticizing his health care plan, as well as his other ideas for all that change.
three last points. first of all, i heard what you said to the (poverty-stricken) people in southern ohio when you said something to the effect of the environment being related to the economy being related to foreign policy. "it's all connected," i think you said. that, senator clinton, felt like getting blood from a rock to hear a politician say something so intuitively obvious. (for some reason?) second, i totally do not mind that you are married to a lech, and i think you handled yourself with as much dignity as possible under the circumstances when it came to light what a lech he is (and i totally don't mind that your marriage seems to be about politics, see above, and i like the idea of him and his competence being around, too). third, whether or not i believe you, i am very impressed with how you handled questions about your vote for the war, because you said the most rhetorically savvy things, and that demonstrates your competence in the workings of power.
to recap: vadge, ambition, competence, unlikability, recognition and control of realpolitik. go get 'em!! please!!

I'm suspicious of the suspicion of sentimentality.
heh. this is good. not damning by faint praise at all. i do wonder though how a suspicion of sentimentality rests with the clinton 3 am ad that plays on a culture of fear: aren't fear and hope flip sides of one another?(though i very much like her glasses in that ad)

I don't fully accept your argument on ambition. It doesn't provide for a way to keep it in check. Dangerous most is raw unbridled ambition coupled with power and the Clintons are just slightly a little too adept at manipulation.
It's not because it's on a woman that makes it ugly. (it was equally ugly on Romney [among other things]).
