misalignment

i've always understood any physical muscular-skeletal problems i might have, chronic or accute, to be traceable disproportionately short forearms. before you roll your eyes, consider your high school physics classes on leverage, and how even this one small trait could affect the balance and alignment of an entire human body. see? compounding all of it, i am double jointed in my elbows.

but anyway, i like going to all these classes that my gym offers that are new to me. for example, spinning classes and something called "group power," which is not about voting blocs, but about lifting weights aerobically to music. but it's individual and very light weights so there's not a lot either "group" or "power" about it. it would be more accurately called "individual flopping."

because flopping is what happens in there. even though all classes i have been to seem to be taught by knowledgable and professional staff, half the people in them don't do anything resembling what we are being instructed to do. in one spinning class, for example, one guy in a matching sweatsuit announced at the beginning of class how much he loved the teacher, but then just cycled at his own (very slow and high-resistance) pace the entire time. and tonight i went to my first so-called "group power" class, and sure enough, people stand there in the middle of the room picking up random weights and doing random moves and flopping even more than the rest of us.

This is why I love yoga. Not because it's restful, but because the instructor is so devoted to proper form that she will send a squad of assistants over to you if you start flopping around, and she will command those assistants to behave like a torture rack, and they will obey. They pull you into the proper form while she looks on, frozen in a perfect pose, standing above and in front of us with only her facial muscles loose enough to let a smirk flicker across her face.

Yoga.

MMS: i have enjoyed yoga classes in the past, that is for sure. i especially enjoyed one at this gym where the instructor told us that if we were sore the next day it was our own fault for not listening to our bodies properly.

i've never had a teacher with helpers!!! that might be just the ticket.
