i just don't understand

time passes so very quickly, so it seems like the last christmas was only a few weeks ago.  they should have it every four years, like the olympics.  i can't understand the appeal of all that travelling and buying stuff and shoving your face full of food under awkward social circumstances.  i'm getting a rash just thinking about it.  that TV commercial with the folk singer in the county store even though everyone's bought everything from overstock.com (which is what the commercial is for)?  no, no, no.

also, i read my share of beauty/fashion magazines, and they're always talking about dresses and shoes and makeup for the holidays, which are always sparkly, and they give all these skin tips for looking like you're well-rested after you've overdone it yet again at one of your many holiday cocktail parties.  that sounds like pure hell, waking up with a hangover in time to slather your face with camouflaging makeup (wouldn't you rather sleep in?), with your feet sore from heels, and having your sparkly dress all stinky and needing to go to the dry cleaners, going to work and seeing everyone from the night before feeling similarly--and now under fluorescent lights.  i thought we were civilized?

these scenes run counter to my core values of holding still and being quiet.
