tips

while it is pretty awesome to be at home in a 20-year old t-shirt with a cold sore, a rash, and an overly fuzzy face, none of which i need care about for aesthetic reasons (already having caught and trapped a man), waking up at 10 and sitting on your couch with a computer and a handful of chocolate chips and knowing you can legitimately call this "being at work," i decided nevertheless today to opt for the semi-dignified scenery of my campus office to get some work done, complete with a bra.

which meant i got to drive for a bit and ponder that the roman catholic bishops here in the u.s. are threatening people with eternal damnation if they don't vote against abortion rights, UNLESS, they say, you have a compelling moral reason to vote otherwise. and so while i won't lament that the whole point of the u.s. in the first place, that church and state be separate, has been dumped out the window--this is old news--i will offer you, dear reader, some alternative compelling moral issues, according to which you may (or may not) choose to cast votes. many of them involve death and suffering, if that's your thing.

  • war
  • poverty
  • death penalty
  • governments abandoning citizens and allowing them to drown or be permanently displaced by natural disasters
  • government officials profiting directly and privately from war
  • children's health insurance
  • abandonment of friends as soon as they hit a rough spot
  • deep willful ignorance
  • officials believing most of their constituents will go to hell, and that hell involves fire and gnashing teeth and wailing, and they can't wait for that to happen
  • lying about reasons to go to war
  • compromising national security for a petty vendetta
