fitness instructors hate me
i would have thought the opposite would be true, since i am strong and good-humored with not a lot of personal dignity, and therefore would have thought i was the ideal fitness class student. these qualities, however, were referred to one yoga instructor disdainfully as "a lot of sun energy." i'm always jealous of the people who chitty chat with the teachers and who know have enough of a relationship with the teacher that everyone knows little details about the other: where they live, their kids names, etc. at our new(ish), expensive and fancy gym, any attempts i have made at jokes have been met with utter silence, as though I have not spoken, or slight acknowledgments that don't really get the jokes. (wait. maybe it's my jokes?) today i showed up to pilates after a couple of weeks of missing it, and the teacher said "welcome back," which was encouraging, but afterward when i said it was really hard after being gone for a while, and it didn't even help that i had been sucking in my stomach every time i drove during those two weeks, i got a lame polite-only laugh and dismissed. what does a girl have to do to get these people to like her?!! sheesh. little do they know what interesting things i have to tell them about my knees and breathing and double-jointed elbows! i am a veritable font. of information about myself. oh.
