faerieye tayelese

so, i recently finished the new harry potter book and just wrapped up season 5 of buffy, and they have a great deal more in common than i'd originally suspected--which was already quite a bit. and so i've been thinking about myths and fairy tales and allegories and how people use narrative to make sense of the world, sense that is otherwise not available.

but then, someone recently pointed out that if hillary clinton gets elected in 2008, and then if she gets re-elected in 2012, that will be 28--twenty-eight!--years that we will have had either a bush or a clinton in the white house. and that sounds like an epoch to me in which Good and Evil battle. of course i'm biased, but it is also the case that typically the Evil side is one of lineage and birth, whereas the Good side is the one with the plucky special orphan who comes from a meager and shabby background, and who has to go to hell and back. i'll do you the favor of not making all the lineups perfectly clear between harry, buffy and billary. but you see what i mean. anyhoo, maybe since we live in allegorical times we can get to having our narratives vary a bit and not mean anything? that would be nice.
