i am watching 60 minutes' interview with president bush, and i am struck now as i am struck repeatedly at how poorly he comes across. he cannot say anything of substance or even resembling substance. he can't look his interlocutor in the eye. he can't not seem like a defensive and unintelligent frat boy (having taught enough of them, i know what of i speak). he can't help but ramble in near-unintelligible syllables designed to sound like answers to the questions. in fact, his interview bears distressing resemblance to this interview with another national figure:
