on the playground we called such a person a "user"

those reports of so-called tea party protests and demonstrations are kind of stomach churning. i mean, obama being likened to hitler? and hitler being likened to karl marx? did these people ever once look at a history textbook or a timeline or a map? or meet anyone who has? besides the bizarre level of stupidity demonstrated, the really deeply vile aspect is how those passionately, defiantly ignorant people are being exploited by the organizers of these things. the organizers would never be caught dead spewing such embarrassingly misinformed bile, but they're happy to use others' ignorance to whip up crowd support. organizers' tacit endorsement of all this frothing is so incredibly icky because they love that racist hateful shit, and presumably secretly agree, but know that if they said it they would lose all credibility. i don't know if it's more vile that they agree or that they do so in secret.

gawd I know, but it helps to read you say it. Rachel Maddow does a great segment on the genealogy of these fuckers called "Astro Turf" - would be worth making it mandatory viewing for all students.
