media round-up

"glee": at first, i was ga-ga over this show, which = "fame" + "powerhouse"* + the breakfast club + mama mia. however, i think there's something about it that is not working, trying to hard or something. however, jane lynch is not to be missed.

the hurt locker: you think you know suspense? you haven't seen suspense until you have seen this. this one joins full metal jacket and apocalypse now in the pantheon of really, really, really good war movies. as an added bonus, it's contemporary! and will make you detest george w. bush even more.

inglourious basterds: what the heck, right? i mean why not? you kinda know what you're getting into with quentin tarantino and here it is. he does love his vengeful women. but the bad guy of the movie? is unbelievably good. truly. terrifyingly charming.

music: this exists, right? i am so pathetically unhip, i still listen to "groove is in the heart" when i run. i used to have some semblance of something, but now i'm turning into someone who will never ever ever leave 1991. please, save me. also, i used to listen to music in the car and play it really loud and sing along, but since i don't drive to work anymore, i don't. i like walking to work. but i miss that stress reliever.

"the wire": we finally got season 5 started on netflix. i'm afraid for when it's over, because then we will have already watched the best TV show that has ever existed, and after that, there's nothing.

"inside the actor's studio": i love james lipton. i really do. i think he loves more than the rest of us do.

"i didn't know i was pregnant": if you haven't seen this show, don't watch it. seriously. it's essentially about fat people using the rhythm method.

revolutionary road: i probably won't see the movie, but i'm reading the novel. it's depressing. in a very mid-century, written-on-a-typewriter way.

---------

*does anyone else remember this show? i think it was made for one year, for 9 year olds, during the year i was 9. so, if you were born in 1973, maybe you remember it. it was about a bunch of kids who were all different from each other and who hung out at the local community center and solved mysteries. it was SO AWESOME.

yes, that streudel-eating scene in Inglourious Basterds was a cringe-a-thon. what an actor (i believe he won at Cannes for that). Brad's Eye-talian was also a bit of a showstopper. ha!

For suspense, I actually thought "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant" took the cake. Well, it would have taken the cake if they'd just changed the title to something like "Guess what I found!"
