nooooooo

i have to sell my car, and i don't want to!* i am as attached to it as a person can be to inanimate matter. i think i could sell it if it were to a good home. it would be perfect for some cheerful teenager or young adult with a lot of wherewithal. that's who i want to have it. not a perfect person, just one with some moxie.

maybe it's the sheer number of years and miles i've had it, or the various experiences and life changes i've had in it or near it or using it on my way to them, i dunno. but we can't afford to have two cars and don't need two cars, and the other car is newer and bigger, so. ack!

*just as i shan't teach my dogs tricks because they are not circus performers, i shan't name cars, because they are not people. i like it for its car-ness, not for its anthropomorphizability.

I totally get you on not naming cars; it freaks me out. Two of my best friends in high school named their cars -- one car was Oliver and the other one was Betsy -- and I have to say that the petting of the dashboard and crooning "here we go, Betsy," or "don't fail me now, Oliver!" was pretty much cancelled out for me by everything else. Do you really fill up a Betsy with gas, and then stomp on her until she gets going, and then leave her out in the rain? Do you really let old Oliver get all banged up and then laugh and laugh when little parts of him fall off? Sadistic, that's what I thought.
