review

look, i used to think i would watch anything on TV. anything. i even actually like a lot of the shows people make fun of, not only "american idol," and other various reality/contest shows but also those cheesy weekend-night primetime dramas like "las vegas" or "harper's island." indeed, my own personal spouse (m.o.p.s.) has reflected on more than one occasion that perhaps the most disappointing thing about marrying me is my (lack of) taste in television.

but i have met my match! and it is "nip/tuck." "nip/tuck" is unwatchable. i can't put my finger on it. i don't have a specific objection to the show, which incorporates many elements that, under many other circumstances, i happily tolerate and even enjoy. it can't be the "bad" doctor's eyebrows, which are very very strange. it can't be joely richardson's jarring skin/eye color combination. it can't be that we're supposed to think a guy who is obviously at least 25 years old is a teenager. it's not the up-close shots of surgery--scalpels cutting into human skin. and i'm pretty sure it's not that the show moralizes against cosmetic surgery even while pretending that it's not (moralizing against cosmetic surgery).

maybe it's the combination of these? or some other unspeakable factor? but it's the only tv show i ever thought i couldn't watch. i de-queued it!
