that's one to grow on

as the proud owner of a pit bull-mix puppy who is still learning her manners, i am compelled to share the results of a dog-aggression study i heard about on the radio this morning. investigators looked into 111 cases of dogs biting children and found:

  • no particular breed stood out
  • 75% were males
  • neutering seemed to not make a difference (but you should still spay and neuter your pets!)
  • the dogs had not bitten anyone before
  • most of the dogs were in some state of physical pain or discomfort when they bit
lesson: males in pain are a pain to everyone else. i guess we knew that already. so maybe the lesson really is: take care of your dog if he is sick or wounded and keep unpredictable and thoughtless small-size people away from him. and quit raising your eyebrows at me when i tell you the breed of my dog.
