1. it is walking distance to one very good bar, and biking distance to at least one other very good bar.
2. it is walking distance to one very good grocery store, and two other reasonable grocery stores
3. people go cuckoo bananas on halloween with decorations and stuff
4. it is biking distance to DOGTOWN, the greatest place on earth
5. there are sidewalks and big trees and people keep their lawns in reasonably cared for but not psychotically manicured shape, and people generally have flowers
6. ours is the kind of neighborhood where people are nice to each other but don't try to be your best friend
7. ours is the kind of neighborhood where the people do their own yard and house work, and even home repairs
8. our neighborhood seems very mixed, in lots of ways: race and age most obviously, and also sexuality and marital status, so i notice
9. most people who walk their dogs past our house look like their dogs, including the molester-looking guy who has like 6 bichon frisés that he walks one at a time around the same block (incidentally, i believe he is a backyard breeder, and so i would like to steal his dogs and have them neutered--who's with me?!)
10. kids run around and play outside with their dogs and skateboards and stuff and don't act like their afraid of you when you say hello (molester-looking guy notwithstanding)
