are you there, twenty-first century? it's me, elizabeth
wellity, wellity, wellity. me and chad, aka MOPS (my own personal spouse) went on a road trip to blacksburg, virginia, where he is soon to be gainfully employed. tribulations of academic couplehood aside for the mo, i wanted to celebrate my encounter with TWO forms of technology that are new to me. and when i say "technology," i mean an object with a screen that you plug in. the first was a GPS unit that, like knows where you are going and tells you how to get there.* and the second was a wii, on which i played boxing and guitar hero, to varying effect. my friends: holy crap. total immersion. with the GPS, the technology comes into your world and permeates it, if you let it. with the wii, you go there and use your whole body to engage it. i'm not one to be automatically skeptical of technology or one to automatically go gaga over it. but i do want to mark this total body engagement as a turn and say it was, like, super cool. i wonder what are the ways in which it wouldn't be super cool?
