- all government programs and decisions being underwritten by the recognition that all personal and financial decisions can and should only be made under circumstances of food and health security--that bodily stability must come before ideological conformity.
- widespread practices in the credit card industry deemed usurious, and therefore illegal
- education and healthcare free for citizens
- "government subsidies," i.e., for tobacco, oil and corn, referred to as "market welfare"
- mandatory education in quantitative thinking, interpreting statistics, etc.
- all dogs and cats in shelters spayed or neutered
- prostitution legalized and regulated
- marijuana legalized and regulated
- all unions of consenting adults made legal/ domestic abuse deemed "unconstitutional"
- all guns illegal, except for hunting
**incidentally, i am of the opinion that americans as a group are more sexist than racist. of course, these attitudes are congealed in different ways and are therefore difficult to compare. but consider the relative OK-ness of making snide jokes about HC's "difference" with making snide jokes about BO's. i'm just saying. and anyway, still undecided as i entered the poll booth, i spazzed out at the idea that i could vote--for president of the USA!--for someone with a vadge, and went for it. (i know, i know, margaret thatcher, etc. i'm just saying!)

hm. maybe that depends on which americans--esp., what part of the country. not sure what to do with all the lynchings of black men for so much as looking at white women. ya know? it's an interesting question anyway. also it's kind of unbelievable how people who vote for obama are being called sexist (not here, obv, but over at tenured radical's blog, e.g. that blows my mind.)

dhawhee: that's insane. though not totally sure if that lynching example is, like, a counterexample, given all the violence against women that no one lifts a finger about (remember when the taliban was an email campaign, b/c it was "only" about the treatment of women?). but, people see what they want to see, and i would certainly never argue that americans aren't, you know, racist. anyway, i went with the vadge this time; who knows what'll happen later?
and I say never underestimate human's capacity for hate for any reason. I offer in evidence the Northern Ireland, where the people are of the same ethnicity and hate based on religion (which affects politics because it affects power). I think the same point can be made about the Balkans and maybe the Mid-East.
You know, Obama is left handed. There are more vadges then lefties out there.
