catching up on correspondence

dear russell brand,

you represent two of the qualities that i think usually get regarded with suspicion and resentment, but that the world would be better off with if they were more highly valued:  being really good at something and taking pleasure in showing off at it; and complicated wittiness that reflects not only (absorbed rather than applied) education but also zinger diagnostics of your own species.  your iconoclasm and cheerful embrace of your (hilarious and tragic) weaknesses are only icing on the cake.  i love your book in the way that i love the books of some of my favorite philosophers.

love,

elizabeth

___________

dear francis and levon,

sometimes when you think you are alone, i can still hear you talking!  you'll only ever set foot outside over my dead body, and i do not for one second buy the "dresser inspector" act of yours, francis, even with the costume and the patches and badges.  also, since you do not have thumbs, pockets, or any concept of representation or exchange, it will be very hard indeed for you to procure that canned cat food you think is so important.   nevertheless, keep up the good work.

love,

elizabeth

_____________

dear ROC,

the time has come for you and i to part ways, at least for a little while.  too bad, you were really starting to grow on me, and you are home to some people who are very dear to me.  guess i'm still kinda racking up the places i've lived, and that has its plusses and minuses, eh?  i wonder where i and mine will finally settle down?  anyway, ROC, the place i'm moving is a lot different from you, so we shall just have to wait and see, shan't we?

love,

elizabeth
