you know,

being a new mom can actually be pretty lonely and boring. especially if you are a.) a little oldish for a new mom; b.) have a career but are on leave for a few months; c.) living in a relatively new (to you) town without a critical mass of people you can count on; d.) a fairly social person who likes to see and talk with people and e.) not really integrated into anyone's life, so you are easy to forget about or cancel on.

this can be true even if you are crazy about your new sweet baby and even if everything is officially great. the thing is, when people say, "how's it going?" they want to hear about how much you are (or are not) sleeping or getting peed on or whatever. they specifically do NOT want to hear that you are lonely and bored. funny how the things that matter are so inappropriate, and not because it's so dramatic but because it's so banal. i can't say it to anyone in conversation, so i have said it here.
