i have a lot of writing to do, and relatedly, a lot of reading. i can be a bit dispiriting. i am, however, comforted and buoyed by the fact that, according to my calculations, i have determined the Funniest Object Made By Humans. and . . . drumroll . . . that object is:

Here's the breakdown:

1.) it is gold. gooollllld. gaaawwwwld. do you think the aliens will be impressed with our most valuable substance?

2.) it is a record. maybe the aliens have needles for fingers and speakers for ears!

3.) it has greetings in 55 languages. do you think the aliens speak the language of the navajo? how about inuit or ancient greek or dutch? wait, no--the aliens have brains that can learn any language after they have been greeted in it. we also have this reason for hilarity because when has any group of people ever greeted another innocently, in peace and curiosity? never, is when.

4.) it is in space. granted, i do not relate to thinking space is so super terrific awesome. i am more inspired by people helping people than by people learning useless crap about far away places. i don't think it's heroic to have perfect eyesight. i think it's better to fix up the place you live than get all excited about somewhere else that might be even crappier or that you're just going to ruin with syphilis and guns and finance industries anyway. however, i do think the universe is actually laughing when it considers that humanity thinks space is for them. so i'm just saying, this last reason is humor on a very big scale.

mv: the best i can offer you is credit for the momentary coincidence of your interests with mine. ( i was teaching a carl sagan essay and that's what pointed me in this direction.) anyway, that's my final offer--take it or leave it.
