i swear, i'm considering going christian just to promote the parts that everyone seems to have missed, if the national news/dialogue is any indication: making sure poor people eat, hanging out with and understanding social outcasts, healing sick people, overturning the money changers. for crying out tears. when did religion become the opposite of ethics?

blargh!
i really hate the catholic church. a whole lot. i was raised in it, went to school in it for 12 years, made first communion and confirmation and all that. and i'm here to tell you: there are a lot of really great and ethical catholic people, but as an institution? evil, vile, really a scourge on the earth and its people. child-hating, woman-hating, gay-hating. hoarding and withholding every possible material and spiritual resource. and now this is the kind of thing that makes me apoplectic. how many fucking catholic politicians support the death penalty? do they get barred from communion? the answer is no. the death penalty within roman catholicism is just as proscribed as abortion. but the american catholic church wants its republican constituents (and vice versa), oh, and there's also that bit about controlling women's behavior taking precedence over theological consistency.
